on a 1 year contract according to ESPNNEWS
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4889342 Free agent second baseman Adam Kennedy has agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Nationals worth $1.25 million plus a $2 million option for 2011, baseball sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney on Friday. The Nationals came to terms with Kennedy after failing to negotiate a deal with Orlando Hudson, who reached a deal with the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. Kennedy, an 11-year veteran with the Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Angels, hit .289 with 11 home runs and 63 RBIs last season for the A's.

The Nats will have a good team in a few years it seems.

Right now we're just hoping they can get more than 62 wins in a season. Actually they do have a few good players with a promising young pitching staff. If Steven Strassburg flops, it's back to the drawing boards - they have a lot invested in him. Also have a lot of cash (publicly financed stadium, one of most profitable franchises in baseball), which they are not spending, and the first pic in next year's draft.
Yet they came up $1 mil short in trying to get Orlando Hudson ($4 mil offer, when he accepted $5 mil). Personally, I don't think Hudson is worth $3.75 mil more than Kennedy, for a team that's not going to have a winner this year anyway. Meanwhile, we're having quite a blizzard here in the DC area right now. |

I thought you were from Detroit, Louie? Anyway, there maybe more to money for Hudson to consider. The Nats aren't exactly heavy favorites to win anything this year.

I am glad to see that, unlike the Pirates, the Nationals area at least TRYING to make themselves better.

I'm originally from St. Louis, live in Washington area, only been in Detroit once in my life. Named after a poker game. Season ticket-holder of the Nats, mainly so I can see other teams, most especially the three or four Cards games per season. It will be interesting to see if the Nats can start to build a team. Owners so far pocket about $40 mil a year and give us nothing on the field except Ryan Zimmerman, Adam Dunn, and a very nice half season from Nyjer Morgan, whom they stole from the Pirates. |
